Cee Gee Reviews: The Miyagi-Verse

Written by Christian Garcia

I will be taking a short break from the MCU Reviews and will be looking at the Karate Kid franchise also known as the Miyagi-Verse!

My roommate recently introduced me to Cobra Kai on Netflix and from the moment I started watching it, I was hooked. He was watching the most recent season and I thought it looked like a lot of fun. I wound up binging the entire show in about a week. I got my girlfriend hooked on it and she finished it before I did.

I loved the characters, the writing, and the atmosphere. It captured the feel of the original 80s films while also still feeling fresh. I remember the running joke on How I Met Your Mother, where Barney would describe the story of The Karate Kid as the story of Johnny Lawrence as the hero. My guess is that joke got the creators of Cobra Kai thinking and they made it into a reality.

After finishing Cobra Kai, it got my girlfriend interested in watching The Karate Kid trilogy. So, I decided that once we finished our watch through of the Marvel films, our next marathon would be The Karate Kid which has inspired me to do a retrospective on the entire Miyagi-Verse.

This retrospective will include The Karate Kid trilogy and even The Next Karate Kid. My viewings of The Karate Kid sequels will be my first time so I will have a fresh perspective and it will be interesting to give them a look seeing how they have evolved the characters in Cobra Kai.

After the films, I will have a series retrospective of Cobra Kai reviewing each season individually. I will end the retrospective with a piece giving my predictions and hopes for season 5.

Hope you join along and enjoy my trip through the Miyagi-Verse!
